What is PEMF therapy?
PEMF therapy is a form of magnetic stimulation or energy medicine using devices known as PEMF devices that emit pulsating electromagnetic fields, these electromagnetic vibrations are tuned at specific frequencies and amplitude. PEMF therapy devices are designed to target specific areas of the body or provide whole-body effects as well.
In the US and Canada, PEMF therapy has been FDA approved for healing non-union bone fractures and also various forms of depression that doesn’t respond to medication (treatment-resistant). We can see that the effects are on a neurological level while bone and tissue recovery also happens when PEMF therapy is applied according to research. This is truly a great advancement in healing and performance enhancement technology.
Why is PEMF therapy needed?
National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) reports that 6 in 10 United States citizens live with chronic disease. Pain levels are also shooting high today, Painaustralia estimated 15% of Australians were living with chronic pain in 2018. In the United States, an estimated 20.4% of adults had chronic pain according to the CDC. It’s natural that we seek to find newer more effective solutions to these problems in order to improve our quality of living.
PEMF therapy has been under active research and development for more than 60 years. Now we know that PEMF therapy has the capability to provide both short-term and life-long benefits both physiologically and neurologically when applied with proper knowledge, and is safe to use. It has been research-proven to be beneficial for a variety of pain and chronic conditions. The reason for their incredible effectiveness is that pulsed electromagnetic fields have been proven to have beneficial effects on the mitochondrial level, providing substantial healing from a variety of conditions due to enhanced cellular regeneration.
You’ll find plenty of studies citing this aspect, especially in the earliest studies and trials, as this electrotherapy technology evolved in the US mainly due to the efforts of institutions like NASA, Harvard Medical, Dr. Sandyk, Dr. Pawluk, and several other lesser-known but equally important universities, organizations, doctors and scientists from all over the world. PEMF has been gaining increased acceptance, in 2011, Dr. Oz's show also had an episode on it for helping relieve chronic pain.
Today, PEMF therapy machines come in a variety of formats – PEMF mats, powerful / low-power wearable / portable PEMF devices, clinical PEMF therapy systems, and so on. It becomes important to understand how they could be utilized for maximum benefit for various conditions. However, note that we do not imply that any of the PEMF devices presented on our website be used to treat any medical conditions.
